Quick Tips
to selecting a stud/breeder
Check with each breeder individually and see if they meet your standards.
At a minimum, quality breeders will be x-raying all their parent stock for
both elbow and hip dysplasia. They will be involved with their dogs --
conformation, hunt tests, field trials, or obedience/agility tests. Their
dogs will be clean, healthy and properly housed. The breeder should be
happy to discuss all aspects of their breed, including their breeding
program goals. You should feel comfortable and with their overall breeding
objectives. Consider the strengths and improving the weaknesses of your
bitch when finding a companion, and inquire about pedigree to determine
potential inbreeding. The most appropriate stud to improving the breed may
be many miles away, so discuss travel arrangements and potential boarding
fees with the stud's owner.
Looking to
promote your stud dog? Help Prairie Lakes HRC raise funds, and in
return advertise your stud for an unlimited time for the price of one stud
fee (per stud) through your first referral from Prairie Lakes HRC!
Please note that we ask all sellers to list health certifications and
titles of the advertised stud. If no health certifications of the sire or
dam have been performed, that information will be listed as well in order
for potential customers to make an informed decision. Our website is
linked from the national Hunting Retriever Club website, and so the
possibilities are endless as to what clients you may reach. In addition,
you have the word-of-mouth benefit from all members of our organization to
offer a referral to you when they learn someone is searching for a
particular kind of stud.
Prairie Lakes HRC
recognizes that not all serious hobby breeders make money after the sale
of litters, and so for this reason we believe in keeping our advertising
costs minimal. As a stud dog owner, advertise with
us each of your studs for just $30 for 12 calendar months!
If you
become a member
of Prairie Lakes HRC for just $35 a
year for individual membership or $50 for family membership, you are
entitled to list as many studs as you like for the membership year!

"Coby" is an intelligent and muscular black male labrador retriever
whelped in 2001. He has participated in HRC field tests, having
earned the Hunting Retriever title. His honorifics include placing
second at the National Upland Quail Classic. Coby's sire is Hunting
Retreiver Champion Stewart's Scapaflow Toby JH, and dam Emevale
Sara, whose parents are FTCH Drumnamoe Shot and IR FTCH Broadville
Dusky. British labs are slightly shorter than the American lab,
standing 21-23" tall. They have great stamina and are a strong dog,
which is at home in the water as well as in the field. They will
hunt everything from upland birds to retrieving your downed Canadian
